Wake-up, Mr Geddes!

I was surprised this morning to be woken up by a burly-looking woman from the hotel telling me my sleep time was over. I check the clock, and it was pretty early, but she was very insistent. You don’t want to argue with a big Scandinavian mama at that time of the morning. So I snuck out of bed and into the shower. However, less than half way through the water went cold, and a “bing” noise informed me that my time was done, so I had to finish off rinsing in the cold sink. Before I could get dressed, the lights went out, and nothing I could do would get them back on again. So I had to put my clothes on by feeling my way around, and then with the door ajar for a bit of light. For breakfast I had a part-cooked egg on a slither of toast and a few dregs of coffee from the pot.

By the time I got back this afternoon, I really needed to get online. I’d specifically chosen a hotel advertising “free Internet access”, so I picked up a sticker from reception with the access code. Sadly this only lasts for 8 hours, and I’m going to work late, so I ask for another sticker. No can do, you have to pay SEK120 for 24 hour access. “But you advertised ‘free Internet access’, not ‘1/3 Internet access”!” She doesn’t yield.

So if you’re ever staying in the Comfort Hotel, Stockholm, you’ve been warned. Not all the above was a dream.
