I got a text message from Tesco Mobile this afternoon. I was busy doing real work when my phone buzzed. I don't give out my mobile number much, so I assumed it was my wife. Nope, apparently I can make international phone calls for only 10 times as much as costs from my desk phone. I'm not impressed.
So I follow their instructions to call 2702 to opt out of further communications. Naturally it's the 9th option in the menu. Pressing '9' doesn't register with the IVR system first time, so try again. Then I'm invited to write to them (feel blood pressure rising), or call customer care (a mere 20p a minute), or .... yeay ... send a text message with "STOP" to 60000. (Why can't I just press '1' to stop!?!?).
And the operators wonder why their customers have an irrational hatred of them and churn at the drop of a hat...
